The Romanian Association for the Club of Rome (ARCoR) is a non governmental and apolitical organization. ARCoR shares the Club of Rome's concern for humankind's future and is built upon its most important concepts, such as:

  • the need for global thinking and local action;
  • the importance of long term thinking;
  • the need to advance global action and to address the world problematique.

9 December 2009: The Romanian Association for the Club of Rome held its annual General Assembly

The meeting was held in Bucharest, at the Club of the National Bank of Romania. During the meeting, the members discussed about, and approved the new Board of ARCoR and the revised Statute of the Association, as well as the projects of the Association for the year 2010.

Within the same meeting, a session was held, “Romania - Post Crisis Scenarios”, the interventions being made by Mr. Mugur Isarescu, President of ARCoR and Governor of the National Bank, Prof. Mircea Malitza, Vice-President of ARCoR, Dr. Calin Georgescu, Secretary General of ARCoR and Amb. Sergiu Celac, Vice-President of ARCoR. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in February of 2010.


29 July 2009: Aurelio Peccei honoured by the Romanian Association for the Club of Rome

ARCoR paid hommage to Aurelio Peccei, 25 years after he passed away, at a memorial conference held on 27 July 2009 in the assembly hall of the National Bank of Romania.
 
Acad. Mugur Isărescu, ARCoR President, Governor of the National Bank of Romania, spoke on the relevance of Aurelio Peccei’s legacy for coping with the global challenges of today. Professor Mircea Malitza, Vice President of ARCoR, member of the Romanian Academy, recalled his personal encounters with Aurelio Peccei in the early years of the Club of Rome. Dr. Călin Georgescu, ARCoR Secretary General, emphasized the continued importance of the concept of sustainable development and rational use of resources. Finally, Dr. Valentin Lazea, Chief Economist of the National Bank, outlined some of the options for Romania’s development in the post-crisis period.
 
The main speeches were followed by a lively debate on the impact that the Club of Rome reports have had on the advancement of forward-looking thinking and comprehensive approaches to development in the modern world.   
 
The audience included a former President and a former Prime Minister of Romania, ministers and other dignitaries, members of Parliament, leading representatives of the academic and business community, and general public.
